National
Dancing at The
Cavalcade of Sport held at the
Tower Circus 1959. |
An extract from the School
Magazine, Christmas 1959. R J C Wilson (Lower VA) writes: 'In Autumn 1958 a
new project was launched in our College, mainly under the auspices of Br.
O'Brien and Br. Sreenan. They assembled the boys who were interested in
national dancing.....we gave our first Christmas concert for our parents'
entertainment. This proved so successful that it was decided to enter the
school for the Blackpool Cavalcade of Sport at the Tower Circus. By this
time the senior troupe had increased to sixteen and the junior troupe to
twelve. The junior troupe did the Kerry Reel, the senior troupe the Sixteen
Hand Reel and Paul Nixon danced a solo jig. We were given a tremendous
ovation at all our performances. We next made an appearance at the Winter
Gardens....' |
